Abstract: The importance of mathematical modeling to better understand complex systems is a very active area of research. In this talk we elaborate on our approach for systematic cancer research via mathematical modeling. This could lead to better understanding of various cancer mechanisms, and valuable insights for individual treatment, prevention and diagnostic strategies. In this approach we combine expertise from medicine, biology and mathematical sciences. There are two main type of mathematical modeling; data driven and model based. Each of these has their own advantages. We use various mathematical tools to find an appropriate solution for problems in hand. The problems are defined in collaboration with medical doctors. The problems could vary from a subcellular level to patient and treatment levels. Treatment strategies include immuno, chemo, hormone, radiation and stem cell therapies. We investigate each of these treatment types to achieve better understating, discover new avenues of research and ultimately reduce cost and uncertainty in patient treatment.
