Abstract: Orthognathic surgery has been proposed as a one form of treatment for patients with maxilla-mandibular deformities who have temporomandibular joint dysfunction. On the other hand, studies have shown that asymptomatic patients can develop tempromandibular joint problems after having orthognathic surgery. This presentation will analyze the accuracy of the data supporting the use of orthognathic surgery for the treatment TMJ problems and the risk factors associated with such causing problems.
