Article Type: ---- Unspecified ----
Abstract:

Introduction: Aggression has been identified as a serious problem affecting a significant proportion of young male students.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the male adolescents' experiences of aggressive behaviors.
Methods and Materials: In this qualitative study, data were collected through semi-structured interviews from 27 male students (14-16 years) selected by purposeful sampling. All recorded materials were transcribed verbatim and then analyzed by content analysis.
Results: Four themes were identified: adolescence as factor for aggressiveness, being limited, feeling inferiority, being accused. Adolescents also pointed out that they need to be tolerated and understood by their parents, teachers and other adults since they feel fragile in this period of life. They wanted more freedom, more patience by the others and being ignored by adults in cases where they had minor faults. Participants emphasized the aggressive behaviors they were exposed to in their community (i.e. home, school, and neighborhood) as important factors to develop aggressive behaviors.
Conclusion: The findings suggested that the need to develop educational program for the family and teachers to understand the needs of adolescents and to help them to go through this stormy period more peacefully. Developing educational programs for the adolescents about how to deal with the problems in a logical way also would be helpful. Social support may buffer the effects of community aggression and violence and help the youth to cope better with the problems.
